Succesful AGM in Dublin

Succesful AGM in Dublin on April 12 & 13

The AGM has become a key date in members’ diaries, resulting in a record attendance with 115 delegates from 21 countries. Besides the European members, we were happy to welcome international guests: our American colleagues Megan Daum and Sherrie Rosenblatt from CMI, Renault Castro from Abralatas, Brazil and Alex Commins from Jamestrong, Australia. Our event was sponsored by Ardagh, Ball and Sidermec.

New Chairman Colin Gilliscolin

This year saw Martin Reynolds (CROWN Europe) hand over the chairmanship to Colin Gillis (Ball Beverage Packaging Europe). The entire industry recognises the major contribution Martin has made during his 6-year tenure. His guidance has contributed significantly to our association’s development, now including the entire value chain. Colin is very pleased to be appointed Chairman of Metal Packaging Europe and looks forward to work with all stakeholders involved. Only by working together, can we continue our efforts to reach ever more ambitious goals.

Presentations

The Open Space covered presentations on “Sustainability and how to make it count for business”. External speakers comprised Lynsey Clarke from Jacobs, Laura Fernandez from Marks & Spencer, Armand Ferreira from ING, and for a bit of Irish flavour, Aidan McNally from the Teeling Whiskey Distillery.

Metal Packaging Europe staff and industry speakers covered the working programmes of all industry and market specific commissions, including an update on the recently finalised Circular Economy Package and the positive results our industry value has achieved.

All presentations are available for download on the intranet.

Detailed updates on all Metal Packaging Europe projects can be found in the 2017–2018 Activity Report, which was distributed at the AGM. It provides members with a review of the commissions’ activities completed in 2017 as well as the work foreseen and budgeted in 2018. A digital version of the report will be made available on the intranet.

Seahorse Canstructionseahorse

We took the opportunity to host another Canstruction event at our industry get-together. The meeting room was decorated with a magnificent statue in the shape of a seahorse. It was made with 1.860 filled tuna, tomato and green peas cans, which were gifted to the local food bank, FoodCloud. Iseult Ward, CEO and founder of FoodCloud, happily accepted the donation. She was excited to learn about the advantages of metal packaging as the battle against food waste is very high on the agenda of food banks.
