Water Resilience
Water is used for forming, washing, rinsing and cooling in the beverage can manufacturing process.
However, water is also one of the world’s most essential natural resources and, in many parts of the world, it is becoming increasingly scarce. We feel that it is therefore crucial that can makers take measures to ensure that water is used responsibly.
Plants are committed to reducing the amount of water used to produce each unit.
Improved rinsing and cleaning processes now use high-efficiency nozzles or vapour-based cleaning.
Facilities are increasingly implementing real-time water monitoring systems to track usage and detect leaks or inefficiencies quickly. This helps to optimize consumption and address waste early.
Some plants have begun to incorporate rainwater harvesting for non-potable applications, such as cooling or cleaning, reducing reliance on municipal or groundwater supplies.
Many manufacturing plants have installed closed-loop water systems, which recycle and reuse water throughout the production process. This significantly reduces the need for freshwater intake and minimizes wastewater discharge.
